About Us

The Young Israel of Forest Hills, located at the corner of Yellowstone Boulevard and Burns Street, was organized in 1951 by a handful of idealistic people who wanted to develop a model Orthodox community in Forest Hills.  The Young Israel of Forest Hills has been the core of Modern Orthodoxy in the community for over 65 years. Committed to Torah values and subscribing to the philosophy of the Young Israel Movement, the Young Israel of Forest Hills has emerged as a force in the building of positive Jewish life in our community.

The synagogue has youth activities, a Sisterhood and a well attended Senior program(open to all seniors in the Forest Hills/Rego Park community).  The synagogue hosts a program for Jewish children that attend Public School (Queens Jewish Education Program).  The synagogue hosts, on a regular basis, special events and lectures of interest to the entire community.

The Young Israel has had a profound religious affect on many individuals and families.  It has also enhanced the general Forest Hills Jewish community by supporting Jewish education, encouraging proper kosher standards and promoting good works for the community and beyond. The Young Israel of Forest Hills was the first synagogue outside of Israel to hold a Holocaust commemoration and has maintained this tradition for more than 53 years.  The synagogue has been and will continue to be dedicated to the State of Israel and to mobilizing local resources for Israel and work Jewry.  Members of the synagogue are involved in local weekly food delivery to the poor, the Forest Hills chapter of Hatzalah, a local volunteer ambulance corp and have a committee that reaches out to the hospitalized and the homebound.

Learning

The synagogue has a variety of weekly adult education classes.

Prayer & Worship

The synagogue has daily services and a variety of minyanim to meet the needs of all.  In addition to the main minyan which davens in the main sanctuary at 8:45AM on Shabbos morning, there is the Gluck Beis Medrash minyan for young married couples and the Tifferet Shalom Sephardic minyan.
